Resources for the Restless: How to Sleep Better

Getting a good night’s rest is one of the best things you can do for your mind and body. However, more than 30% of adults in the U.S. report that they have trouble getting enough sleep each night. If you’re one of the many tossing and turning at night, here’s a guide to help you get some much-needed shut-eye:

Create a Sleep-First Environment

Is your bedroom designed with sleep in mind?● Invest in blackout curtains to block out any ambient light from outside. ● If you like to use white noise to sleep, invest in a high-quality white noise machine to help counteract outside noise. ● Make sure your room is cool in order to promote quality sleep. ● Declutter and add some mood-boosting plants to promote calm and relieve anxiety.

Build Healthy Daytime Habits

You can promote good sleep all day long:

● A regular bedtime yoga practice can help regulate your energy levels and improve restfulness at night.

● Consider developing a meditation practice – this can be especially useful if stressful thoughts keep you up at night.

● Avoid spicy foods or caffeine toward the evening, and limit caffeine as much as possible all day.

Consider Talking to a Professional

Your sleep issues may need medical attention.

● If simple interventions like these don’t make a difference, reach out to your doctor.

● Severe anxiety that prevents sleep may benefit from talk therapy and other medical interventions.

● A sleep study can help diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, which can have serious health impacts.

Remember, if you struggle to get a good night’s sleep, you’re not alone. However, developing good habits and making your rest a priority can make a big difference in your life. We hope these resources help you get the rest you deserve!
